Server Patch Management

Patch Management Equals Better Hosting Security

BlueCentral provides true managed servers, whether they be dedicated virtual servers or managed dedicated physical servers. This actually means we supply and look after the Operating System Software (eg Microsoft Windows Server R2 or Red Hat Linux) which is included in our managed hosting arrangement with each customer. If you use co-location racks, you supply and patch your own servers. However, the bad guys are out there, constantly trying to access business servers. Through our hosted network infrastructure, firewalls and software we can keep them at bay, for you. Part of that is updating the software using "patches" small pieces of software code usually designed to improve security on your servers before the next "release" of software if provided, or new version. This is all part of our service for "managed servers". There are also patches that provide feature updates.

Hosted Patching Regime

We apply patches once per month, unless it is a security emergency or you request it at a different time. We prefer to patch your test or development servers FIRST to make sure there are no glitches and you are satisfied with the result. In reality many customers patch their production servers directly, and many others do not patch at all. This is particulaly important if you use Cloud Servers for production purposes.

What Patches are Included with Managed Servers from BlueCentral?

If you ask for patching, and that is your reqsponsiblity, we will patch up to twice a month for no additional charge. If you want more patches applied, or version upgrades we will of course provide those, at TAM (Time and Material) fees for engineers. Generally patching is done at the end of the day between 5pm and 7pm. We may charge a little more if you require patches at 2am or on weekends.

Please call BlueCentral on 1300 258 323 if you have any queries regarding your hosted server patching regime or complete the form to the right.
