Fast Data Back-up to Disk

BlueCentral now has a policy of backing up most data services to SAN disks, so that fast recovery services are available directly from the disk. To some degree this time RTO depends on our customers's applications, but generally complete recovery of data can be achieved for average sized applications within an hour.

Managed Hosting Back-up on Tape or VTL

BlueCentral provides three grades of managed tape backup services, including dedicated tapes, off-site tape storage and encrypted tape options. We can also provide a Virtual Tape Library (VTL) service for those who want their backup "near line" on disk. Normally this is held reliably on SATA drives which are then accessible more reliably and faster than tape services. We consider data back-up services as key to overall managed hosting.

Off-site Tape Back-up is provided using rotatable tape cartridges via a partner firm.

Avamar Back-up and Data De-duplication

Despite the promises from many other hosters, BlueCentral is the only mainstream hosting company in Australia that actually has EMC Avamar technology installed and operating brilliantly for our customers. Avamar is a device that de-duplicates back-up data and stores it offsite, on disk. It is immediately available for "re-hydration" of the data so that a restore can be achieved very quickly for a hosting customer. It is particularly good system for customers with a low RTO requirement, large data storage or very large files. In our view this provides a far more cost effective service than some of the CDN services that are also used for backup (amongst other things).
